A Few New Habits

August 15, 2009 By Maureen Heinen Leave a Comment

Does “getting and staying organized” sound overwhelming? Start practicing just a few new habits and the rewards will amaze you…

1. Read with a pen: Tired of re-reading material over and over again to find the essential information you need? Frustrated that the details you wanted to remember in the article you just read are nowhere to be found the second time you look at it? Go back to those studious habits of reading with a pen! Circle the dates, amount due, and all key information so the next time you pick up that piece of paper, the critical information will jump out at you.

2. Right hand corner reminder: Are you a member of the “I Hate to File” club? Take care of the toughest task the first time you touch any document by writing down the subject of the information or action you need to take in the upper right-hand corner (e.g. ‘Bank-privacy info’ or ‘RSVP by 12 Oct’.

3. Box your “to-do’s”: Simply make a check box in front of any action item you write. It will stand out from the other writing on the page and you’ll feel great when you can check it off.
